Out of Africa

by Carolyn Chadwick on April 23, 2009

I had a dream….. of Africa! Karen Blixen said. Meryl Streep and Robert Redford play beautiful scenes in one of my favourite films ‘Out of Africa’
Now I am on my way again to South Africa, Cape Town…. a continent I fell in love with about 15 years ago when I flew as a flight attendent for KLM. I remember to this day when I first touched African soil… it was like coming home.. the smell, the colour of the earth, the green, the people, their music and the immense force I felt Nature and the wild animals gave me. Especially the elephants…. I adore and love elehants.

Once went to an elephant orphanage in Nairobi in Kenya…. and was stunned by the horror stories of how the babies lost their mothers. Sabotagely slaughtered by hunters for the ivory… and the babies left along the roadside… Elephants are like humans, they are very senistive and feel distraught when a family member dies. The aunts then usually take care of the orphans.

I remember seeing so many youg little elephants and being aloud to give them a big bottle of milk… on of the happiest days of my life….

I would have to dig deep in my photo albums to find a photo… if I do I will post it.

Now today I am travelling towards my favourite destination… Cape Town and it’s beautiful valleys and countryside…. no safari for me this time…. discovering my own self at a deeper level… and refuelling my inspiration and power… there in Camps Bay…. the light is perfect and the peace and tranquility perfect…. and the Atlantic Ocean Spectacular…

We will be staying at a beautiful Villa.. Villa Simona, and the lady of the house said we would have the Elephant Appartment, with the MOST spectacular view of the Atlantic… I cann’t wait…

Will keep you all posted.
